Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club made history last week when their Ladies Team won the Division 6 of the West of Scotland Summer Doubles League, the first time the trophy has been won by a South Lanarkshire team for some time.
Playing at home against Paisley Ladies, Kirkhill’s Division 6 team included teenager Emma Green who at 17 years old is the youngest member of the winning team. Emma achieved sporting glory alongside team mates Amanda Hart, Alison McQueen, Joanne Forrest, Beth McGunnigle and Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club President, Jacqueline Clark.
The competitive match resulted in a 5-4 victory for Kirkhill but securing success didn’t come easily. Against fading light and floodlights, the team worked hard to be crowned triumphant winners. Jacqueline explains: "It was a very tight match and we worked hard to score a victory. Kirkhill Lawn Tennis club proudly has a very active ladies team and we welcome local ladies to come along and join the club. There's lots of tennis on offer from starter level to more advance. And, when we have tennis success, we do like to celebrate...in style!"
Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club is one of the oldest in the local area, celebrating its centenary last year.
