On Sunday 23rd June my youngest daughter Katherine & I took part in Moorfields Eye Charity's epic 10th anniversary walk! We walked 15 miles in the glorious London sunshine visiting most of the iconic sights of this beautiful city.
The Moorfields Charity is a cause close to my heart, since they restored most of the sight back in my right eye. On 2nd Jan 2024 I woke up with a detached retina which rendered me virtually blind in that eye. No event caused it, which apparently is nearly always the case with an issue like this. This is a hugely stressful and frightening experience even for a man of my 56 year vintage who has experienced a lot of life's issues both good & bad.
As you most of you know I am now doing all the things I did before including playing tennis again, still as poorly as before but no worse and yes I am right handed too. The team at Moorfields are amazing: without them there is no doubt I would have eventually gone blind in that eye.
I am pleased to say we personally managed to collect £1,135 in donations for the Moorfields Charity & the whole team collected well over £100k for the charity. This will allow them to carry out eye technology studies in the hope that Moorfields will continue to provide the best possible care for those who lose their sight.
We got a lot of donations from members of the tennis club & would personally like to thank them for their support. The photo attached is us on the finish line in what to date is my most satisfying charity event, since I spent some quality time with my daughter helping a really worthwhile cause. In addition it was an event that caused me the least physical pain, since most of my charity adventures previously have involved running long distances quickly with the associated consequences being blisters & injuries in places you wouldn't think could get injured!
