One of our senior members, Christopher Strong, recently lost his wife of 45 years, Sally, to Motor Neurone Disease (MND). Sally was on the Bedford long Covid clinic with her main initial symptom being tiredness and a limit to how far she could walk compared to what she had been used to before Covid. She was discharged from this clinic because she developed a slight clawing of her foot and therefore the doctors no longer thought it was Covid. Sally was diagnosed with MND in September 2022 after visiting a private Consultant Neurologist and she sadly died in October 2024, aged 70.
Sally was an Occupational Therapist and then trained as a pottery teacher. She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, as well as painting, reading, gardening, flower arranging and most of all, spending time with her family of three children and six grandchildren.
During the pandemic, one of Christopher and Sally’s daughters and her family were stranded in New Zealand. As a way of keeping in touch with her grandchildren, Sally started writing stories about Kiln farm, the home that Sally and Christopher shared. These stories have been transformed into two beautiful books with illustrations also by Sally.
If any members would like to purchase either, or both, of these books with all proceeds going to the MND association, please visit Tribute to Sally Strong to make a donation. The guide price is £15 per book but if you would like to contribute more, then please do so. Alternatively, if you don’t require a book but would still like to donate, then that is truly appreciated too.
Once you have donated, please contact Christopher Strong by texting 07821 541371 to arrange collection of your book(s).
The books are aimed at aged 4-11 years and would make great Christmas presents for grandchildren, children and grown-up children alike.
Thank you in advance for your interest and support.
Christopher Strong
