Lisvane Coaching Programme

At LTC we encourage tennis for people of all ages. Our youngest players are only five, and we have some energetic septuagenarians who play regularly too.

Junior classes are held several times a week and Saturday mornings classes are held from 9:30am - 2pm.  The Saturday sessions cater from complete beginners (5 years +) to advanced matchplay running until 3pm for the regularly competing juniors.

There are also midweek sessions for players that compete regularly and play for the Lisvane teams.  Monday is late night coaching for the performance juniors and Wednesday 4-5pm has been a long standing session that attracts many of the local primary school children - book this one early though as there is always a long waiting list!

About the coaches:

All lead coaches are DBS (previously CRB) checked, First Aid trained, fully insured and have attended an LTA Safeguarding certificated training course.

Our Head Coach is Tony Symons-Hicks, an Accredited+ LTA Senior Club Coach, level 4 (+ is the LTA's highest level of coach accreditation).   He also holds the prestigious RPT Director of Tennis award in addition to the ICI (International Coaches Institute) Head Professional Certificate.  RPT is the Spanish version of the LTA, a teaching system based on hard work,  a drill systems, discipline, humility and good values.  We believe strongly in this training system!

In December 2015 Tony trained at the Sanchez Casal Academy, Barcelona where he obtained the ASC Coach Training Certificate.  Tony is also a member of ABTO (Association British Tennis Officials) & R4 Qualified LTA referee.  In July 2019 Tony was ranked no.1 in Wales in the Men’s +45’s.

Lisvane Tennis Coaching believes strongly in getting the children to play competitive tennis, to participate in the club’s Box Leagues (largest junior leagues in Wales) and to learn to enjoy competitive tennis in a fun freindy environment, without the fear of losing.

All assistant coaches at Lisvane play tournaments and play Box Leagues regularly.

All this said, Tony says 'the most important and rewarding part of coaching is seeing the same children come back to the programme week after week, month after month, year after year - tennis is a sport for life'.
