Coaching

We encourage tennis for people of all ages. Our youngest players are only five, and we have some energetic septuagenarians who play regularly too. On Saturday mornings classes are held at the following times, with around 35 children participating - 9:30 -10:30 am for beginners, 10:30 -11:30 am for improvers, 11:30 -12:45 advanced with invited matchplay until 3pm for the Regular Competing Junior's. There are also six midweek (performance) sessions held with just under 50 children taking part.

Children who show that they are developing their skills sufficiently, progress to the Performance Programme; they are then invited to extra coaching at other times during the week. Further progress promotes these children to the adult tennis programme. Many of our adult team members have progressed all the way through from Saturday morning tennis to our adult teams, illustrating the success of the coaching programme. It should also be noted that juniors won both the club men's and women's singles championship this year.

About the coaches: 

All coaches are DBS (previously CRB) checked, First Aid trained, fully insured and have attended an LTA Safeguarding certificated training course. 

Our Head Coach is Tony Symons-Hicks. Tony is LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) levels 1, 2, 3  & Cardio Tennis qualified, RPT (Registro Profesional de Tenis) levels 1, 2, 3 & 4 qualified, and holds the prestigious RPT Director of Tennis award in addition to the ICI (International Coaches Institute) Head Professional Certificate.  RPT is the Spanish version of the LTA, a teaching system based on hard work,  drill systems, discipline, humility and good values.  We believe strongly in this training system.

In December 2015 Tony trained at the Sanchez Casal Academy, Barcelona where he obtained the ASC Coach Training Certificate.  Tony is a also a member of ABTO (Association British Tennis Officials) & R4 Licensed LTA referee.  

Sam, Will, Luke, James, Rhys & Ellie qualified in 2016 as RPT Community Coach Assistants having first trained as LTA Tennis Leaders for 18 months. The RPT Community Coaches are further supported by LTA qualified Tennis Leaders:  Joseph L, Will C, Elliot J, Erin P, Caitlin P, Neil, M, Katie G, Osian D, Lucie J & Olivia G, all Leaders are regular tournament players so will be more than capable of teaching the younger players how to play tennis, rules, tactics & having fun etc.
