What's happening at LWTC

Competition

A new name on the men's singles trophy!

What a great men's singles we had on Friday night. A mix of old hands, new members and a couple of hard hitting youths made for an exciting and high quality men's singles tournament.

Congratulations to our new champion Garreth Anderson, who made it third final lucky (I think?) with a stunning comeback victory over Alex Ling.

In the semi-final Alex had beaten a pre-tournament favourite, Andrew Broadhurst, in one of the highest quality performances we've seen in a LWTC Men's Singles, while Garreth saw off two time winner Jono Stobart.

Garreth did magnificently to raise his game in the final, breaking back as Alex served for the championship. He was then clinical in the tie break, clinching match point with a full stretch, drop half volley off one of the most vicious service returns of the night. A fitting way to win the trophy.

Jake Allison and Matt Fleet were unlucky not to proceed from a very tight group with Alex Ling, both played some great tennis, and Charles Potter took his quarter final tie break into extra time against Jono. It was lovely to see John Hunt, Rob Geddes and Holger Schmidt for the first time, it's always great to get new participants, and my thanks to Ed 'this is ma town' Hoskin and Charlie Allison for both their play and support to the end.

Finally, social secretary Helen Milne made the whole thing massively more enjoyable by putting on a bar and BBQ (on the new club Weber), which was hugely appreciated.

The committee are keen make these events better and better so if anyone has any ideas to share. Send 'em in.
