U/14 BOYS COUNTY CUP REPORT

Norfolk Under 14s boys headed out to north Oxford for county cup, playing in Division 2e facing Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire & Berkshire. Norfolk putting out a younger team with all of the players competing in their first u14s county cup. Day 1, Norfolk played Bedfordshire with Mark getting the first win for Norfolk at number 4. With Number 2 Noah losing a tightly fought match in a 3rd set tie break. Unfortunately after losing both doubles in tight matches Norfolk lost 5-1, with the boys needing to regroup for the strong Cambridgeshire team. Against Cambridgeshire the boys all battled hard during the singles losing out to a strong showing from the Cambridgeshire team. Oscar and Mark stepped up in the doubles to pull out the first rubber of the match 11-9 in the 3rd set tie break but the strong Cambridgeshire team was too strong losing 5-1 overall.  Day 2 started with rain and finished with more rain, however the Norfolk team brought the spirits high playing Oxfordshire starting out with a huge win again from Mark at number 4, followed by great performance by Oscar who narrowly missed out in 2 tie breaks. With Finley playing some of his best tennis but ultimately losing out to a very strong number 1 from Oxfordshire. The boys fought well in the doubles losing against two very strong pairs. Finishing 5-1. The Norfolk boys fighting fatigue gave their all in the singles against Berkshire but losing some tough singles matches, to a very strong side. The boys showed some very positive doubles play with Elliot turning into a doubles specialist for the last day pulling out some great point but ultimately it wasn’t enough to get that needed rubber ultimately losing out 6-0 to Berkshire. Overall a great weekend of development for the young Norfolk team with great opportunities to improve ready to come back stronger for next year.
