John Loughton - Performance Coach
Here at Nuffield Tennis Academy I work in the Performance side of the programme. I am a qualified Level 5 MPCA (Master Performance Coach).
My coaching philosophy is to enable players to develop technique/skills to maximise their long term potential. Alongside my role at Nuffield, I am the current Yorkshire 10U Head Coach. I have been involved in tennis for over 40 years as a player, parent and coach.
I took up the game aged eight and had a successful junior career winning county titles in all junior age groups up to 18 as well as being a regular member of the national squad. I played for Yorkshire senior team on a number of occasions but a chronic in my early twenties put paid any further competitive career. Having gained a degree in Business Management I took up the post of Head Tennis Coach here at Nuffield Tennis Academy when the centre in 1995.
Five years later I also became the Tennis Manager at Nuffield combining roles. Whilst at Nuffield I was responsible for the development of a National Junior Champion, 3 GB Internationals and over 10 players into Junior National Squads. In 2007 I left Nuffield to take up a role in the Performance Team at the LTA, I spent the next 14 years working in a number of different roles including Regional Performance Co-Ordinator for the North East (Yorkshire, Durham & Cleveland, Northumberland). Over this time I captained GB Junior International Teams, ran LTA Coach Education Courses, Provided Coach/Player/Parent Support to ensure identified players had the best possible programmes.
During my time with the LTA I was also seconded to work 2 days a week as the Yorkshire Performance Manager where I was responsible for (amongst other things) setting up the County Training Programme many of you see.
