Tom Goodaire - Club Coach

In my role at Nuffield Tennis Academy, I run a range of group and private tennis lessons in our centre. Additionally, I travel to schools and deliver taster and outreach sessions with the aim getting more children on a tennis court.

My tennis career started later than most. At 14, I began playing at Hull YPI Lawn Tennis Club and quickly began assisting in the junior squads. Despite my late start to tennis, I was soon playing for the first team at Hull YPI where we won multiple titles in division 1.

In 2010, I moved to Hessle Lawn Tennis Club. Just 3 years on, I had passed my level 3 coaching course and became Head Coach of the club. Halfway through my coaching career, I pursued a career in teaching and studied Primary Teaching at Hull University where I also captained the university men’s first team (HUTC HUTC!).

In 2022, I left coaching and began teaching at a primary school in Hull. However, I realised how much I missed being on the tennis court, and in August that same year, I returned to tennis. The classroom was not for me, but I gained a plethora of knowledge during my time teaching which I can now bring back to the tennis court.

My favourite thing about coaching is helping you to achieve those goals. Whether that be county championships, to beating your best mate, to improving your overall fitness and wellbeing.
