Club Championship update
Ladies Doubles
The Ladies escaped the rain and played some excellent tennis with Berni and Ruth winning group A and Onika & Julie Thomson winning group B. There were a number of notable games during the afternoon with Jnny and Lizzie very nearly forcing a draw with Berni & Ruth and Julia and Tove beating the algorithm forecast against Julie and & Onika! Michelle and Liz had two tight matches and Mayumi and Lynne also fought hard to end in second place in Group B despite being a scratch pair put together just before play started. Great job all and it should be an excellent final!
Improver Random Draw
The opening heats of this year's competition were closely fought with Greg Moulton/Elaine Soanes and John Brian/Tove Moulton winning through to this year's improver final. The purpose of this competition is to get newer players used to the added tenison of competitive play and a genuine match situation. This was immediately obvious from the start of the day with lots of careful cautious rallies as players worked hard to win games and establish their contol of the match. It will be great to see these newer players taking part in our finals and showing how far they have progressed in 2021. Paul Owen/Coco Connolly Owen and Liam Smith/Clair Walker were runners up and played their part in an absorbing morning of tennis. Many thanks to all for taking part!
Mens Doubles
George and James Booth won through in Group A providing too strong competition for Ken/Liam and George D/Peter. Their game ended in a tight 8-4 win for Ken and Liam,. Group B was super close with some excellent tennis throughout. Gregory/Ravi found the competition tough but battled gamely and there was a tense final match whcih Tim/ Steve edged 8-4 against Chris C/Paul J. The match of the day was a great performance from David H/Chris O'S who first pushed to 5-2 up against Tim/Steve then fell 6-5 behind and roared back to gain an excellent draw grabbing the last game on Tim's serve. This meant that Chris C and Paul J won the group by winning one more game than Tim/Steve on the day. It couldn't have been closer.
