More Tournament Success for Moorgate Teenagers

The Hull Tennis Christmas Open (which was played over the Christmas and New Year period) saw Moorgate's talented juniors - Josh Bows, aged 16; and Daniel Porter aged 15 - take part in several events.

Josh, rated at 3.1, took part in the 18-and-Under Doubles event where he partnered 15-year old Joel Gibson (a 3.2 player from Durham/Cleveland). The pair were seeded number one; which was a position that they justified with  a 100% record in the 'Fast 4' round robin tournament; to claim the title without losing a set.

Josh then partnered Daniel in the 16-and-Under doubles; where only a tie break loss to the number one seeds prevented them from winning the event; however they did claim the runners-up spot. Daniel then came third, in the 16-and-Under singles; having claimed some notable scalps in the early rounds.

Josh then entered the Mens Open Singles (as an unseeded player); and performed heroically to take the runners up spot in a highly competitive field.

His first match pitted him against the number one seed, Ali Alaahassan (a 1.2 rated player - who is ranked number two in Cumbria) and the match went to a championship tie break. Josh won this 10-8; which meant he would face his doubles partner, Joel Gibson, in the quarter final. This match also went to a tie break, wiht Josh winning 10-3.

In the semi final Josh faced Zachary Cox (a 2.2 rated player from Cambridgeshire - who had beaten him in their previous encounter); and in yet another championship tie break, Josh came out on top by a 10-8 scoreline.

The final saw him up against his Yorkshire county colleague: the 2.2 rated Adam Hillerby who then won in two close sets.
