Juniors March on While Senior Teams Overcome Problems

In the Winter League, Moorgate's highly rated juniors took on their fiercest opponents, Doncaster, in an eagerly awaited top of the table 16-and-Under league clash.

In the first round of matches, Josh Bows and Daniel Porter dismantled their opponents in a one sided match; winning 10-1. Whilst Emily Busby and Cameron Wood eventually overcame a strong second pair, winning 10-6, to put their team on the brink of victory.

Josh and Emily then beat arguably the best two players in the Doncaster ranks 10-4; with Dan and Cameron doing the same to the second pair, to give Moorgate a 4-0 victory. All of which keeps them in top spot and maintains their 100% record.

After a week of enforced team changes (which continued right up until the morning of the match,) Moorgate A travelled to face fellow Division 1 title contenders Beauchief A, with Debbie Johnson getting a late call up from the B team, to partner Emily Busby; alongside Glyn Smith and Josh Bows.

Josh and Glyn dismissed their opponents for the loss of just two games; but a straight sets defeat for Emily and Debbie left the match evenly poised going into the Mixed Doubles.

Josh and Emily soon won their match to put their team in a strong position; with Glyn and Debbie then putting the icing on the cake with a straight sets win. This resulterd in a 3-1 winning margin, made all the sweeter by the news that main title rivals Barnsley had suffered a shock defeat; leaving just a one point margin between the clubs going into the Christmas break.

Moorgate B faced a must-win Division 3 home match against relegation rivals Hallamshire B; with only captain Mark Busby surviving from the original line up named earlier in the week.

Alan Newsome came in to replace the injured Rob Wood; and with Debbie Johnson called up to the A team; teenagers Megan Cinco and Madeleine Busby were called up.

Alan and Mark had a comfortable win. However a straight sets defeat for Megan and Maddie gave the visitors the edge going into the mixed doubles.

Alan and Megan finally reversed the club's losing trend in championship tie breaks, to leave the match to be decided by the rubber involving father and daughter team, Mark and Maddie.

Their match was an extremely tight affair settled by a marathon championship tie break; which Mark and Maddie won 13-11, to give their team a vital 3-1 win.

Moorgate will once again be offering their 15 months for the price of 12 membership; which runs from 1st January 2020 until 31st March 2021 and is available at half price for new adult members.
