Youth Prevails on Moorgate Finals Day

Despite a bad weather forecast, the Moorgate Senior Finals Day took place on a cool, but ultimately sunny day; and the new generation took over from the older generation in some style.

In the opening match, teenage county player Josh Bows, took on veteran county player Dave Mangham, in a repeat of the recent men's singles finals, with Josh coming out on top by a score of 6-3 6-3.

In the Ladies Singles Final, another teenager - Megan West - took on the still young (but more experienced) Georgina Taylor, in a repeat of last year's final; and once again prevailed 6-0 6-3.

In the Men's Singles Plate Final, the watching audience were treated to one of three matches which went to a deciding set, with Adam Price finally edging Rob Wood, 5-7 6-3 6-3.

Josh Bows then teamed up with Iain Beat to take on Alan Newsome and competition newcomer Martyn Sharpe in the Men's Doubles Final. This match was a real see-saw affair.

Josh and Iain took the first set 6-3, before Alan and Martyn pulled a set back; only for Josh and Iain to run away with the deciding set.

The Ladies Doubles final saw another rising star, Emily Busby, partner Carol Himsworth (who was looking to win her first final after being runner up on three occasions) as they took on Georgina Taylor and Annette Yates. Emily and Carol eventually came out on top 6-2 6-4.

The final match of the day saw Emily partner the day's oldest finalist, John McGleave, against Adam Price and Jacki Sheriff. This was a hard fought match, which saw Adam and Jacki come back from 5-3 down, to take the first set 7-6; before John and Emily took the second set 6-1. With the final set delicately poised at 2-2, Adam and Jacki again pulled away to win 6-2.
