The resumption of the Sheffield and District Winter League following the Xmas break saw Moorgate 'A' continue to push for the Division 1 title, as they entertained bottom of the table Beauchief B.
With captain Josh Bows away on tournament duties, Adam Butcher came into the side to partner Glyn Smith in a topsy-turvy match which they lost on a championship tie break; but a strong performance from Emily Busby and Caroline Boyle saw Moorgate take a slight advantage going into the mixed doubles.
Glyn and Emily had an easy straight sets victory, which would have been enough to give the team a victory on count back; but Adam and Caroline made any such calculations redundant by winning their match on a championship tie break to give their team a 3-1 win. Allo fwhich keeps them in second place with four games to go.
Meanwhile, in Division 3, Moorgate B travelled to face high flying Chesterfield and gave a good account of themselves in a 3-1 defeat. This saw a close match end in defeat for Brian Walker and Mark Busby; but a comprehensive win for Georgina Taylor and Debbie Johnson saw them take a narrow lead into the mixed doubles.
Both Mark/Georgina and Brian/Debbie battled hard, but were eventually beaten giving Chesterfield a 3-1 win.
Simultaneously, in Division 4, Moorgate C travelled to face Stocksbridge C in a vital relegation clash and got off to a great start with wins for John McGleave/Chris Gale and Carol Himsworth/Megan Cinco. However they were pulled back in the Mixed Doubles, as Chris and Carol lost in two tie break sets; whilst John and Megan let a winning first set lead slip to leave the match in the balance. A run of five successive games then took them to a victory in the second set, before a run of eight successive points saw them win the championship tie break, giving Moorgate a vital 3-1 win.
Finally, Moorgate's 16- and-Under team travelled to face Hallam Grange looking to maintain their 100% record. They got off to a great start with a 10-1 win for Daniel Porter and Emily Busby; which was soon followed by a 10-4 win for Jacob Porter and Megan Cinco. Both Daniel/Jacob and Emily/Megan the completed routine 10-2 wins to give their side a convincing 4-0 victory.
