North London Lob-sters – Guidelines for Ability Levels
Not sure what level you are or which Lob-sters' session to join? Below are guidelines for our club. If you still aren't sure, just message one of our coordinators for advice or get a reliable rating by playing a few Spin matches.
We have regular sessions across different skill levels, so there’s a place for everyone.
Advanced: You can rally consistently on both the forehand and backhand side, with good direction and depth control on moderate shots. You can serve with good power and/or spin. You have solid court coverage, across the baseline and up at the net. You can confidently volley most of the time and have a good command of tactical gameplay.
Suggested Spin rating: greater than 2600
Intermediate: You have dependable forehand and backhand strokes with moderate shots, but can sometimes struggle when trying for directional control, depth or power. You can serve consistently with some pace. Winning points from your volleys can be inconsistent and you are working on the tactical side of the game.
Suggested Spin rating: 2000-2600
Beginner/Improver: You understand the rules of the game. You can mostly keep a rally going with someone who hits the ball back to you, and sometimes get a basic serve in. You are working on returning moderate shots more consistently, and adding pace to your serve.
Suggested Spin rating: Below 2000
