About us

Somerset Council

Somerset Council is the new unitary council which brings together the services previously provided by the four district councils in Somerset (Mendip, Sedgemoor, Somerset West and Taunton, and South Somerset) alongside the services provided by Somerset County Council. Somerset Council puts all the people of Somerset at the heart of everything we do. Somerset Council will build a fairer, greener, resilient, more flourishing Somerset that cares for the most vulnerable and listens to you, creating a healthy and caring Somerset.

We are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Somerset residents. We know that when people have the right information and support about their health, and what they can do to prevent poor health themselves, many will take the opportunities to build a healthier lifestyle. We will do what we can to make sure we have an environment that supports healthier lifestyles including access to active travel, leisure facilities, open spaces, good housing, meaningful employment, cultural experiences and social opportunities, so that our residents’ mental and physical health will thrive.

Taunton Town Council

Taunton Town Council covers the previously unparished area of Taunton and parts of neighbouring parishes. Taunton Town Council is responsible for most of the Parks and Public Toilets in Taunton as well as a range of other matters such as events and allotments.

Partnering with the LTA

Together with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) we have invested over £120,000 to refurbish two public park tennis venues in Taunton to ensure that quality facilities are available for the local community. We have courts at Vivary Park, owned by Somerset Council, and Taunton Green, owned by Taunton Town Council.

The project is part of a nationwide investment by the UK Government and LTA Tennis Foundation, delivered by the LTA, to refurbish public tennis courts across Great Britain, and open up the sport to many more people. This investment will see thousands of existing park tennis courts in poor or unplayable condition brought back to life for the benefit of communities across the country through renovation works, and improved court accessibility with new gate-access technology and booking systems.

Park tennis courts are vital in providing opportunities for children and adults to get active whilst delivering significant physical and mental health and wellbeing benefits to participants. Tennis in the Park Taunton are delighted to offer four fantastic tennis courts, delivering accessible tennis to our communities.

So join Tennis in the Park Taunton and get outdoors, get active and start getting invovled in tennis. Game on!
