Long Buckby Weekend

6 members from Thrapston arrived on Saturday 3rd July at Long Buckby in the pouring rain. Undeterred, they sat in their cars for an hour, drank coffee and waited for the rain to pass. At 10:30am it cleared and play could commence. Chris Taylor and Jonathan Horne entered the men’s vets winning their first match in a tiebreak. Chris’s Mum then turned up to ‘support’ but this had a somewhat detrimental effect on their subsequent performances. Mark Wasilewski and Ed Frain entered the men’s open, winning their group and progressing to the quarter finals. Lisele Sloan and Vanessa Taylor entered the ladies open, also winning their group and being knocked out in the semi-finals 4-6 by the eventual winners. The late afternoon sunshine was enjoyed with drinks whilst watching the final.

Thrapston’s line up for the mixed vets on the Sunday was as follows: Mark Wasilewski and Hilary Baseley, Jonathan Horne and Lisele Sloan, and Chris and Vanessa Taylor. A fantastic day of tennis was experienced by all, with the help of the Pimms bar in the afternoon. Chris and Vanessa (seen here) won a tightly contested final 6-4 cheered on enthusiastically by the Thrapston party.
