Ladies Midweek 1st Team - Promotion to Division 1

The season started with a tough match against Bearsted’s 1st Team resulting in a 2-2 win thanks to the new partnership of Julia Smith and Sam Robinson who won the vital set!

The Canterbury team were also strong with Tricia Wallis and Audrey Goodworth winning in 3 sets and Julia and Sam losing to the first pair in 3 but beating the second pair, so a 3-1 win for Trottiscliffe.

After another 3-1 win against United Sam had to withdraw from playing in matches as she is pregnant - good news for Sam but bad news for the team!

Unfortunately for the Walmer match, we were also missing Julia Smith who contracted Covid with Annette Eccott and Rachael Taylor kindly standing in.  It was a lovely match played on perfect grass courts near the Kent coast. The opposition proved too strong for Annette and Rachael and we lost 2-2 but only by 4 games.

With one match left to play the Canterbury team was top of the table so at least a 3-1 win was needed in our final match against Tunbridge Wells, again on grass.  Janice McConnell played with Julia and they made a massive effort to beat the second pair 6-4, 6-4 so keeping our hopes alive.  Tricia and Audrey then beat the second pair to secure a 3-1 win and another Kent LTA trophy shield for the clubhouse with promotion back up to Division 1, which will be extremely challenging.
