Facilities Update

Clubhouse Doors
The clubhouse doors had become stuck due to the wood expanding and thanks to Steve Dakin’s efforts the hinges have now been recessed to create an increased gap and the doors should now be opening and closing freely.

Sight Screen
With the recent high winds, the black mesh sight screen at the far end of the courts had come away in several places and also blown down the court number signs. Dick Hogbin has kindly removed and stored the mesh screen and also replaced the court signs.

One of the issues relating to the current use of the sight screen is the strain it puts on the fencing posts. This, together with the earlier drought, has disturbed the concrete around the base of the fence posts.  We will need to consider its continued use in advance of Spring 2023 so please let the committee know if you have any strong views.

Court Surface Leaves
The recent change in the season and high winds have resulted in a lot of leaves and debris on the court surface and the courts are due to be cleared this afternoon, Friday 4 November.  The club has a petrol leaf blower that is stored in the wooden storage unit located at the village hall side of the clubhouse.  Members are encouraged to use this blower to clear the courts prior to play during the coming weeks when leaves are continually falling.  Martin Jenner is currently servicing the leaf blower’s petrol engine and the unit should be available next week.

Concrete Path
The top area of the concrete path from the decking area to the courts continues to erode and due to the dry summer, the first path joint has become a potential trip hazard.  The Parish Council Courts Working Group (CWG) have been informed and they are currently identifying a contractor who could excavate and renew this area of concrete.

Floodlights
The newly installed LED floodlights have recently been aligned according to the manufacturer's guidelines and are now operational.  Thanks go to Dick Hogbin and Colin Harding for their efforts in managing this project.  The court surface illumination levels are around twice the level when compared with the old incandescent lamps and power consumption has been measured at 3.6kW compared with around 9kW previously, so twice the light for over half the price!!  The current illumination levels now meet the LTA/ITF recommended values for league competitions e.g. 300 lux or better.

The committee are currently reviewing the non-daylight charges levied on members as a result of the reduced power consumption and needs to balance this saving against the fourfold increase in electricity charges that the club now faces.

Should anyone have any queries or comments regarding any of the points raised please contact Tony Piper (Chair) or Dick Hogbin (Treasurer and Maintenance)
