Singles League Information

Below are some details regarding the War Memorial Park Tennis Singles Leagues.

The aim of the leagues is to get people playing – hopefully in a fun and friendly atmosphere. With this aim in mind it is hoped that the league does not have to be burdened with pages of rules. However as with all of these events it is necessary to clarify a few things at the outset.

Timescales

The league period will be from 1st December 2016 to end of February 2017.

Eligibility

Players must be fully paid up members of War Memorial Park Community Tennis Club – for further details visit clubspark.lta.org.uk/WarMemorialParkTennisClub

The War Memorial Park Tennis Singles League has been promoted as an adult league (i.e 18+) however we have, in the past, made an allowance for a junior to take part on the basis that they are already an established player in the adult teams. For future reference the guidance on this will be that

  1. any contact details supplied will be those of the parent/guardian
  2. parent/guardian agrees to accompany the junior player to matches
  3. any junior entrant must be an established member of the adult teams

Arranging matches

All matches will be arranged and run by the participants at a mutually convenient time. There will be no officials or coaches on site when you play matches. Scoring is the responsibility of both players and results should be submitted by both players to andy@inspiringcommunitytennis.co.uk

Both players should provide 4 good balls for each match.

All players are responsible for arranging matches – please don’t wait to be contacted!

Both players should share any costs (e.g. floodlighting).

League make-up

Depending on the number of entries there will be leagues of between 6 and 8 players. Leagues will be, wherever possible, matched by standard with results from previous leagues being taken in to consideration.

Scoring format

13 games i.e winner is the first to 7 games. All 13 games should be played and will be important when deciding group winners (if a tie on number of wins). At 6-6 one more game decides the winner so if your serve is the weapon (or not!) that spin of the racket at the beginning will be key.

Court bookings

13 games should fit comfortably into a one hour booking but will not allow the luxury of a long warm-up.  If you feel you may need longer the second player could book a further half an hour.

With the shorter format (previously 15 games) it may be worth you considering getting 3 or 4 players together at one time and playing back to back matches.

Please note that all bookings should be made in accordance with the club membership terms and conditions taking into account the daily allocation of an hour’s court time. There is no additional court allocation to play league matches so this must be taken into consideration when arranging matches and is the sole responsibility of each member.

League positions

At the end of each league period the league positions will be decided by the number of wins, and in the case of a tie, head to head matches and win percentages as dictated by Tennis Tournament Planner software that will be used to manage the leagues.

Promotion and relegation

All things being equal there will be two players promoted / relegated at the end of the league season. However the organiser reserves the right to alter this and make the necessary changes to ensure the balance of the leagues should any players drop out or new players enter.

Results submission

All matches must be played, and results submitted, by the published date. After this date the leagues will be reorganised and reissued following confirmation of the players’ ongoing commitment to the league.

Both players must email the result to andy@inspiringcommunitytennis.co.uk
