Tennis Rungs
The popular Singles and Doubles Ladders are free and to enter and are open to all members (adults and juniors) – see below for a brief overview of each format. Both ladders can be joined after they have started so if you would like to enter one of these friendly competitions then please send an email to Jon Gustard
Doubles Ladder
The Doubles Ladder typically runs from mid-Summer through to the following February. This is a 'Points Based' ladder open to all members where entrants join and accumulate points as individuals whilst playing doubles format matches - anything goes with men and women able to pair up or play against each other in any combination. Think of it as a bit of a mash up of American Tournament come Super Box League come Social Club Session matches.
Confused? Here's a taster - say I want to play next Sunday at 3pm and I know that Rafa himself is free that afternoon, I create a new match in TennisRungs.com (the platform we're using) at that date and time and add Rafa to the match as my partner, all other participants on the ladder are then able to see my proposal and accept the match (on a first come first served basis) if they are willing and able to play at that time. There's no restriction on who accepts the match, it could be two men, a man and a lady or two ladies. Furthermore, if I want to play but Rafa isn't available, I can still propose a match at that date and time but now there's an option for other ladder participants to either partner me or play against me, again on a first come first served basis. If you're super organised you can go all the way and create a new match with all four players pre-determined, it's entirely up to you.
Points are be awarded for playing a match with bonus points for winning sets and/or the overall match. Note that you don't enter as a specific pair (although if you have a preferred partner you can clearly propose matches at times that suit you both), and there are no pre-defined matches where you have to play everyone else in the league by a certain date.
Singles Ladder
The Singles Ladder is a more traditional “Bump and Jump” ladder which typically runs from September to the end of March. Men and Ladies play in a combined ladder with the top four players as at the end of February going through to a knock-out semi-final and final; the top two ladies as to the end of February go through to a Ladies Final.
