Box Leagues

Our Box Leagues are a great way for players of all levels to start to play competitively or to challenge those who wish to compete on a regular basis with other members of the club.  These matches can contribute towards improving your LTA rating.

Format

We currently run a mixed gender Singles Box League with multiple divisions of differing skill levels.  In future we would like to run a Doubles Box League also if interest keeps increasing.

When

Box League windows usually run for 14 weeks at a time during which you will arrange matches with the other players in your group.  It's up to you when you arrange to play!  Hving signed up, we ask you commit for at least one box league window although most  continue playing throughout the year to challenge themselves against different players

How do the boxes work?

Each box typically contains between six to ten players (or pairs), meaning each round typically involves five to nine matches.  To encourage matches to be played you will benefit in terms of points towards your final League position by playing as many of your matches as you can within the current Box League window.

Your final position at the end of the window may result in promotion (or possibly relegation) so by the time the next window starts you will have new faces to play.

What's the format?

Matches are best of three sets. The third set, if required, will take the form of a match tie-break (first to 10 points).

How do I win points?

You can earn points by:

  • Playing a match: 3 points
  • Winning a set: 2 points
  • Winning a match: 3 points
  • Not playing a match: 0 points

Example:

A match won in 3 sets by Player 1 vs Player 2 will results to:

  • Player 1: 3 pts (playing) + 4 pts (winning 2 sets) + 3 pts (winner) = 10 points
  • Player 2: 3 pts (playing) + 2 pts (winning 1 set) = 5 points

What does it cost?

Absolutely nothing, its free of charge to enter, you just need to supply your own balls for the matches.

How do I arrange a match?

Details of the individuals participating in your group will be shared (with consent) by the League Organiser at the start of a Box League window.  From there, it's over to the participants to agree timings, book your court online and get playing!
