Bakewell Tennis Courts will be closed for Refurbishment from 28th July 2025
We have exciting plans for the tennis courts at Bakewell Recreation Ground. Thanks to £35,000 grant funding from the Lawn Tennis Association, bringing high-quality, sustainable improvements to Bakewell, similar to the successful refurbishment at our Matlock Hall Leys Park.
Refurbishments include:
- Refurbished and improved playing surfaces on both courts.
- A new electronic gated access system integrated with an online booking system for ease of use.
- A charge, consistent with fees at Matlock (£6), to ensure ongoing maintenance and high standards.
- There will be free access Monday - Friday 4 - 6pm and Saturday & Sundays 2-4pm for the first 12 months. This will still require booking.

Bakewell Pickleball is based at the Agricultural Business Centre (ABC) Agricultural Way, Bakewell, DE45 1AH (Indoor Venue Open on Wednesdays only subject to events)
Pickleball Court Hire: £10 per hour and includes the hire of 4 paddles and a pickleball. Parking passes are also available on showing your booking confirmation.
Bakewell Recreation Ground
Bakewell Recreation Ground is also known as Rutland Recreation Ground. It provides fun and enjoyment for people of all ages. It is set in 5.25 hectares of land, and has great outdoor sporting facilities.
In the south east corner where the river meanders around the edge of the park a new wildflower meadow has been created, a perfect area to sit and relax.
The park is just a few minutes' walk away from the town centre of Bakewell, so you can buy sandwiches and drinks and have a picnic in the summer.
Facilities include:
- Children's play area
- Children's splash pad (open May to end September)
- 2 Tennis Courts (Closed & under refurbishment from 28th July 2025)- These will be open all year round once refurbishment is complete.
- Toilets (April to October)
- 2 Football pitches
- 2 Croquet lawns
- A cricket square
- Pavilion
- Ice cream van (seasonal)
- Shelter
