Play on grass

The grass courts are open from 1 May to 31 August each year. Whilst members often ask if this period can be extended, the additional cost of extended maintenance, (cutting and line marking), the impact on court wear and the need to undertake end of season maintenance in a timely fashion to ensure the next years courts are in tip top condition, make this impractical.

Play on the grass courts is not permissable until after 10.00am. This is to allow any dew to evaporate to prevent accidents, due to slipping and help ensure the courts are not damaged to reduce future use during the grass court season.

One question we are regularly asked is......

Are the Grass Courts dry enough to play on?

One way to find out if the grass courts are playable after rain, is the  'Kneel Test'  - To test , kneel on one knee for the count of 10 - if the knee is wet when you get up, it is too wet to play and you should move to an available hard court.

Dress & Footwear Rules Suitable sports wear should be worn on court, preferably recognised tennis wear. No Jeans/trousers or other footwear, please.
