Members might be surprised at the jobs that need doing simply to allow the Club to function as it is. We would all like a better club, but to actually move forward from what we already have means a step change from where we are at the moment.
Playing Surfaces
On November 2017, our old tarmac courts were resurfaced with a modern Matchplay 2 XL carpet surface as approved by the International Tennis Federation.
Feedback has been generally very positive with our club's dedicated members still playing club nights every Friday this winter on this grippy surface which is also easy on the knees.
A big thank you to Dorothy for overseeing this project. Thank you to Fiona, Dave and Nigel for putting in their hours to prepare for this re-surface
Now it is our responsibility to look after these courts. The debris does need to be cleared from these carpet courts regularly. It looks a simple job to clear the courts, but a tennis court is a big place if you are wielding a brush and sweeper.
Carpet courts maintenance rules :
1) PLEASE DO YOUR BIT WHEN OUT ON THE COURTS. IF YOU SEE DEBRI ON COURT, PLEASE GET RID.
2) PLEASE ONLY USE THE SOFT BRUSHES TO BRUSH DEBRI OFF. NOT THE HARD BRUSH. USE THE DEDICATED CARPET BRUSH
3) CAN USE LEAF BLOWER BUT IT NEEDS TO BE USED CORRECTLY
4) PLEASE DO CHECK SHOES FOR MUD IF YOU HAVE BEEN UP THE BANKING. MUD ENCOURAGES MOSS GROWTH ON CARPET AND IS HARD TO REMOVE FROM THE CARPET
5) PLEASE USE BACK COURTS AS WELL AS FRONT COURTS TO DISTRIBUTE THE SAND
Court surrounds such as the grass and overhanging trees need to be mowned down and cut down respectively
A big thank you to Fiona Stuart for buying her own machinery for sorting the grass out.
