SOUTH DEVON TENNIS LEAGUE 2023 NEWS

SUMMER SUCCESS

We would like to thank the captains of our 6 teams that entered the summer league just gone:

The greatest success came from the Men’s B Team who this year won Division 2 and will be promoted next summer.  Congratulations to you all!

Mixed A and Men’s A both came very close to overall victory in the top flight, finishing 3rd and 2nd respectively – given the standard of play in the first divisions everyone who played should be proud of that achievement.

Not to diminish their effort or skills in any way, the other teams didn’t fare so well in terms of final rankings.  Mixed B, having won Division 2 last year, found the hike in standard of A team opposition hard to beat despite a great team spirit and determination to keep trying to win points if not fixtures.  Mixed C, a newly formed team, really enjoyed playing in Division 2 - many players joining in for the first time and keen to continue into the Winter League which starts in October.  It’s great to have such enthusiasm amongst our membership to be involved.

Our Ladies team battled the other ‘A’ team standard ladies in good spirits – testament to the fact that taking part is fun and what it’s all about (it’s not all about the winning but rather playing your best tennis).

Well done and thank you to everyone who organised, played, spectated, encouraged and drove to the farthest reaches of the league - we hope you enjoyed representing Cary Park!

WINTER EXCITEMENT

Cary Park will be entering two mixed teams in the Winter League this year (instead of the usual one).  If you are interested in playing please get in touch with them directly.  We wish them the best of luck.

This year the league is comprised of 10 teams in total.  For the first time Churston, Totnes and Kingsbridge are also entering two teams.  This shows a healthy appetite for competitive play in our local area and we are all for it!
