Early Sessions:
Ideal for beginners and improvers, or those returning to tennis, where you can gain confidence in a relaxed environment.
**At all times, priority for play in Early sessions is given to those members not eligible to participate in the Late sessions.
Late Sessions:
Open to stronger players, and those who’ve advanced from Early sessions.
You will need to have received prior approval to attend the Late sessions. Approval is determined by the tennis committee following an assessment of your play.
We have the following framework for assessment to play in the Late sessions:
“To be eligible to play in the late club day sessions a player must demonstrate that they are able to successfully deal with the variability, strength, spin and speed of shots from the majority of players from within that group. This should include showing that they have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with success. They should be able to master the use of power and spins (though on occasion they may over-hit difficult shots). Rallies may be lost due to impatience. They should demonstrate an awareness of doubles positioning, movement and play within a doubles partnership and be able to serve and return serve on a consistent basis.”
Format:
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday: Play a short set - first to reach 6 games. Everyone must bring their own good standard tennis balls.
Monday and Wednesday: Mix round with different players every 30 minutes. Whilst used match tennis balls are available, you can bring your own good standard tennis balls.
All play is self-organised by those attending / volunteers, except for Monday Late session (6.30pm to 8pm) which will generally be supervised by club coach Rob Busby.
Play is on Astro courts. Matches or other events may restrict court availability.
