The ladies first team hosted Newick last Sunday in their first match of the Summer season, blessed with sunshine and a rather cool wind.
Gill Luis-Ravelo and Jo Chopping took on Newick's second pair in the first rubber, achieving a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win, while Ros Parker and Gemma Bridger played Newick's first pair and although there were some competitive rallies took a good 6-3, 6-1 victory.
In the reverse matches, Ros and Gemma achieved a straight-forward 6-1, 6-1 win, while Gill and Jo had a battle royal with Newick's first pair. Up 5-2 in the first set, Gill and Jo lost it 7-5 and then settled again to take the second 6-3, so it was all down to the championship tie break. Our pair went 5-9 down and then came back to win a marathon 14-12.
