Club Development

This oldest tennis club in the world is not standing still! Our 10-year development plan aims to:

  • Develop the club's facilities and encourage more year-round play
  • Be a force for good in our local community
  • Run the club as well as possible for minimal effort

Here's how we're doing:

Develop the club's facilities and encourage more year-round play
In September 2022, we unveiled two brand new all-weather hard courts, which doubles our playing capacity over the winter months. Temporary practice lights were installed in December 2022 to ensure social play can continue into the evenings. These new facilities means that the club now boasts a total of four different playing surfaces for members to enjoy.

Be a force for good in our local community
Following a conversation with the Birmingham Mental Health Carers Support Service, we were fortunate to gain funding for carers to have free tennis lessons at Archery for a year. This project has been running every Wednesday from 11am - 12pm since September 2022. The majority of participants are currently women, which supports the LTA’s drive for greater inclusion and gender equality in the sport. We have given new tennis racket kits to those who have attended regularly so they can continue outside of the lessons if the time or situation arises. We have secured funding for 10 places, and still have some availability. If you know of a carer who could be interested in joining the sessions, please ask them to contact Neil Glasspool (ealtssecretary@gmail.com or 07766 880067).

Run the club as well as possible for minimal effort
As a volunteer-led club, we are grateful to members who dedicate their time and skills to the various committees, working groups, and essential roles that keep the club running on a day-to-day basis. We are always on the look-out for people to join the Bar Team or the House & Grounds Volunteer (HGV) group. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Neil Glasspool in the first instance (ealtssecretary@gmail.com or 07766 880067), indicating the skills you can bring and the area to which you would be most interested in contributing.
