Welcome to Edgbaston Archery & Lawn Tennis Society

How to have your own Commonwealth Games in the Midlands

As Birmingham proudly plays host to the 2022 Commonwealth Games, we are delighted to be featured in an article for The Times promoting sport in the Midlands. Paying tribute to our role in the history of lawn tennis, the article highlights the range of playing facilities that the society offers. While adult memberships start from £17 per month, non-members can book on to selected coaching sessions throughout the week, including Cardio Tennis on Wednesdays. See coaching timetable for full details.

The Oldest Lawn Tennis Club in the World

Founded in 1860, we are a friendly, social club located in the heart of Edgbaston next to the picturesque setting of Birmingham Botanical Gardens. With a range of outdoor court surfaces including two all-weather floodlit astroturf, two Italian Clay courts, and two shale courts, we are especially privileged to enjoy four grass courts over the summer months. We offer individual and group coaching, cardio tennis, and many opportunities for social tennis throughout the week. Members can book courts for free at any time there is availability. For those seeking a competitive challenge, we also have strong teams of all standards playing in local, regional, and national leagues.

We welcome players of all ages and abilities. To enquire about joining, please contact the Membership Secretary, Nicola James: [email protected]

Please could all players familiarise themselves with the current playing guidelines to ensure the club remains a safe and enjoyable environment for all our members and visitors.
