Testimonials

I joined EALTS for the sport but also for the social and community aspects, and so far my expectations have been met. I enjoy the lovely atmosphere and the friendliness. My tennis is gradually improving. I do the Monday group sessions with Tom, and some 1 to 1s with Sophie.

Joining EALTS here in Birmingham has been one of the best decisions I could have made. It just took a few weeks to get to know a lot of members and be invited to participate in training sessions as well as tournaments. From the beginning, I had support to get involved in the club and see how it all works.

I must admit that now the club is my favourite place in Birmingham. Located next to the Botanical Gardens, EALTS is surrounded by nature and makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere even though you are in Edgbaston (near the city centre). One of the reasons that made me choose this amazing club is the different surfaces it has. The club has grass courts, astro courts and clay courts. So as a Spaniard I am so happy to feel like home in Birmingham playing on clay!

It was the first time that I played on grass and the experience was amazing. I would have to mention the dedication of the coaches as well that the club has. In my case, Tom Barton has helped me since the beginning and give me support during matches.

Due to coronavirus most of the events were cancelled but fortunately they are being programmed soon. Thanks to the organisers and volunteers of the club, EALTS is always in perfect condition to play.  I would recommend this club 100%, as there are all levels of tennis so you could always have a partner to play.

I’ve been bowled over by the friendliness of EALTS. In just a few weeks since joining, I’ve met lots of lovely people and my diary is crammed full with singles and doubles fixtures! I’ve been made to feel so welcome, and what’s particularly nice is there are players of all standards, so I don’t feel I’m not “good enough” to be in a club. Playing on grass is a real joy – especially playing on grass in the glorious surroundings of leafy Edgbaston, with The Birmingham Botanical Gardens right next door. If I’d known before what fun it would be to be to join a tennis club, I’d have done it a long time ago!

Having been a member of EALTS for a short period of time I am keen to share my experience to those considering membership. Prior to joining I was given the opportunity to take a look around the club and the courts. Situated next to the Botanical Gardens, the setting of EALTS is beautiful with its 6 grass courts (at the time of writing 2 were not in use); 2 astro courts (which are being resurfaced in August 2020); 2 clay courts and 2 shale courts.

Having made the decision to become a member, the process to do so was seamless with the completion of a simple membership form and payment of the membership fee. I was provided with a coaching lesson as part of my membership which I immediately took advantage of with one of the club's four 2020 coaches - Holly Reid (whom I can't recommend enough).

My membership also triggered a series of regular communications from the club including an impressive 24-page information booklet; a members directory (which is like the holy grail for a new member); and emails detailing social events.

The EALTS communications and the welcome from the club's organisers/ volunteers and existing members are second to none - a lot of neighbouring tennis clubs could learn a lot. In my opinion EALTS are like a grand slam winner with the grace of Federer; the passion of Nadal; the organisation of Djokovic; the positivity of Serena and the hunger of Halep!
