Glossop Tennis Club goes solar – cutting costs and powering our future

We’re excited to share some brilliant news for the club. Glossop Tennis Club is installing 32 Aiko Neostar 2S 465 W panels, creating a 14.88 kW solar PV system on the clubhouse roof—a big step towards a greener and more sustainable future.

What the new system will deliver

  • Annual generation: an estimated 10,837 kWh of clean electricity every year.
  • Carbon savings: around 2,244 kg of CO₂ each year—the same as a car driving about 8,000 miles or the CO₂ absorbed by more than 100 trees / year.

Funding and sustainability
Thanks to the effort of Vice Chairman Rob Millington, we’ve secured a £10,000 grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). This generous funding covers around 80% of the project cost, meaning we can make a major improvement without putting pressure on club finances.

Lower bills, stronger club
Electricity is one of our largest running costs. The new solar panels will generate renewable energy and allow us to sell any surplus back to the grid. Over time this will cut our electricity bills dramatically, freeing up money to invest in things that matter most to members—coaching programmes, junior development, and improvements to our courts and facilities.

Installation and next steps
Specialist installers Ask Renewables are carrying out the work, which is scheduled to be completed Monday 15 September. A new meter will be fitted later in the month to ensure we can track and sell the energy we produce.

Thank you
A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this project possible, from UKSPF for their vital funding to the club volunteers who helped with planning and paperwork. We’ll add photos of the finished installation soon so everyone can see the panels in action.

This is a big moment for Glossop Tennis Club. By investing in clean energy, we’re protecting our finances and helping the environment—ensuring the club remains strong and welcoming for many years to come.
