Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Policy

 

Apart from our Head Coach and his assistant coaches, the Club is entirely run by volunteers.   The recruitment and retention of volunteers is critical for the success of the Club.  It is important to the Club that volunteers are and feel appreciated for the work they do and that they enjoy their role.  The Club has a particular responsibility to encourage and look after junior volunteers. 

 

Given that the most effective way of recruiting volunteers is often through personal contact, the Club should make efforts to ensure that opportunities to volunteer are available to all members and use appropriate means to advertise for volunteers, taking into account the principles of its equality policy.

 

The following areas need to be taken into consideration when recruiting a volunteer:

 

  • Does the volunteer hold relevant and current qualifications for the role (if necessary)?
  • Do they have the skills necessary to undertake the role?
  • Do they have experience of working with the age group/level of player?
  • Where was the previous experience gained?
  • Does the volunteer agree to undertake any required training courses?
  • Do they hold adequate insurance cover (if necessary)?

 

Potential volunteers may be required to meet with a member of the management committee to assess their suitability for the role and to discuss the role. Ideally a full job specification will be available for each volunteer role, complete with responsibilities and time commitment but often in practice this will be developed in partnership with the volunteer over a period of time.

 

If the role involves working with children in any capacity without a DBS checked volunteer being present then volunteers will be asked to apply for a DBS check through the LTA web-site and the Club will pay the fee.

 

Where appropriate one or more members of the committee will work with the volunteer, supporting them and inducting them into and developing the role. This will include consideration of the Club's ethos, health and safety policies.

 

Any volunteer who has issues with the role they are asked to take should discuss this with any member of the Club Committee who should use their best endeavours to sort problems out.  If it is not possible to resolve problems, the Club Committee may withdraw the role from the volunteer.  The relationship between the Club and its volunteers does not imply any contract between the Club and the volunteer.
