Onslow Village Lawn Tennis Club (OVLTC) Induction

 

Onslow Village tennis club is a small and welcoming tennis club situated a mile from Guildford town center.  The club was started in 1922 by a group of tennis enthusiasts and continues to be run by its members; led by a committee composed of member volunteers.  We pride ourselves on our warm inclusive culture, encouraging players at all levels to enjoy the game of tennis.

 

  • Membership runs from 1 April each year. There is no joining fee.

2024/2025 membership

  • Adults £220
  • Junior: £26 (aged under 18 on 1st April)

 

  • Members are welcome to bring guests. A guest may play up to six times per year at a cost of £3 per visit

 

  • For our competitive players we enter teams in the local team tennis leagues, for men’s doubles, ladie’s doubles and mixed doubles, supported by weekly team practice.

There is also a club tournament for singles and doubles which runs over the summer with Finals Day in early September.

 

  • For our social players we organise social tennis session throughout the week.

Monday:13:30 – 15:00

Tuesday: 18:30 – 21:30 ( summer only Apr- Sept)

Thursday: 13:30-15:00

Saturday: 14:00 -17:00

 

Social Saturday: Members turn up and mix in where fours are organised to play a set. A committee member or long standing member is always on duty on Saturday afternoons to arrange the pairings. We serve tea and cake at around 16:00. There is a club rota to support the Saturday social tennis.

We also run club 2 social session from 16:00 on Saturday to give our less confident or rusty members an opportunity to meet up and improve.

 

  • For improvers we have structured group lessons as well as access to individual 1:1 lesson.

 

  • For our juniors we have junior development programmes throughout the year

 

Available in the clubhouse you will find details of the clubs social events, where we organise themed meals evenings after club sessions, the annual spring club quiz and New year’s day get together.

 

 

 

Coaching:

  • Coaching is available for adults and juniors

  • All coaches have up-to-date DBS checks and appropriate LTA training as per the OVLTC Recruitment Policy and the clubs Code of Conduct.

 

Facilities:

  • Club House – access is via code access / a thumbprint or key fob.
  • Four outdoor courts – The courts are well maintained and we play all year round.

The courts are available from 7:00 to 21:30 each day. All the courts are floodlit and the switches are in the clubhouse kitchen.  

  • Courts are booked online using “Club Spark”; if you are unable to use the court, please cancel the booking to allow others to use it. Tennis balls are provided.
  • A ball machine – after use please return to the clubhouse and place on charge.

 

  • Please note there are no changing rooms: We request that players come to the venue wearing appropriate sports clothing (tracksuit) and shoes and go home afterwards to shower and change. The OVLTC Changing Room Policy is available in the clubhouse.

 

 

Tennis Club Etiquette:

The club does not insist on traditional tennis white attire, players are requested to wear appropriate sports clothing and footwear.

 

  • Please only enter the court when play has stopped
  • On court, please only walk behind courts between points to avoid distracting players. This also applies to the recreation area behind the courts along the pathway. If in doubt please wait, and someone will wave you along when play has stopped.
  • After play please take all your belongings with you, do not leave any rubbish on court.

 

Code of Conduct:

The OVLTC code of conduct reflects the LTAs and the club’s vision to open tennis up, making it accessible, welcoming and enjoyable; and in doing so recognising standards of disciplined and good sporting behaviour. The purpose of OVLTC code of conduct is to set out the standards of conduct that is expected and required of participants

The Code of conduct is displayed in the clubhouse, and circulated to all new members with this induction information.

 

What are the consequences of not complying?

If you do not comply with the standards or this code of conduct, it may constitute a termination of club membership, or termination of contract of work.

 

Raising a Safeguarding Concern:

OVLTC is committed to prioritising the well-being of children and adults at risk and providing a safe and welcoming environment where they are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children and adults at risk receive effective support and protection.
