Despite the autumn chill our courts welcomed players from 9am to 7pm for a Super Sunday of tennis and pickleball on 13 October. First to start were mixed winter league fixtures against Pewsey and Swindon, followed by an event for 12U junior and 30+ adult players run by Active Academy. Amongst all this tennis was our first competitive pickleball match against Swindon Pickleball Club.
The winter league matches recorded a 'win one, lost one' score, and our pickleball team was outplayed by the accomplished players from SPC, but did that matter? Not a bit. The players had a great time as can be seen in the image. Pickleball is new to the club, so it's early days for our teams. Post match refreshments were provided by our club sponsor Wiltshire Surveyors and the warm drinks were welcome in the October chill.
With all this competitive sport going on, there was still space for members to play and for a couple of hours of 'pay and play' tennis from some local enthusiasts.
All in all, our courts provided the stage for probably over 40 individuals to have a great day. Some went home with medals, others did not. But sport is not just about winning - it's that sense of shared endeavour that will live in the memory.
