For seven days between 4th and 10th August players from all over the region headed to Royal Wootton Bassett for the Summer Open. Individuals aged 11 and under to adults competed for glory and LTA ranking points. As ever, the standard of play was high, and a real credit to the competitors.
‘This year has seen the highest number of players yet for the competition’, said Sam Kingdon-Marston, the event organiser and referee. ‘Players and their supporters enjoy coming to Royal Wootton Bassett TC because it’s close to the motorway, the courts are excellent and the club puts on catering for the event. We expect to see continued growth of the annual event.’
Hosting competitive events for juniors and adults fits very well with the club’s strategy of providing tennis opportunities for all ages and abilities. The club has recently achieved LTA Youth accreditation and offers a fantastic range of tennis for young players of all abilities – beginners to performance players. Head coach Ali Ward is keen to see junior members of the club entering competitions like the Summer Open to test their skills against the region’s best.
