What a busy summer of tennis!
1. At the start of taking over chair, a key focus for me was having pride in our club…and I got the feels! With a huge thanks to Paul who rallied the troops and everyone who helped, RWBTC hosted in style, two week-long events in August. They were well attended and our club received very positive feedback from Wiltshire LTA, the competition organisers, the participants and their families. We also raised £2500. What an achievement
2. Our members and associates have achieved competitively:
- Ollie Cox has won three ITF Futures events and now sits at world no. 24 in Quad singles.
- Una played in the Play your Wat to Wimbledon National Finals and got through to the round of 32
- The club teams achieved some good results in the Swindon & District Summer League – Women’s A were top of division 1 for the third year, Men’s B were runners up in division 3 and Mixed A, B and C were all runners up in their divisions.
3. We have secured sponsorship for the 5th banner along the roadside from Sustain. Just one more to go. Thank you, Susie, for your perseverance and persuasion skills. Wiltshire Surveyors are also sponsoring 5 new net measurers for us. We will continue to seek sponsorship opportunities as this has been a successful growth area in the club.
4. It is positive to see the ongoing investment we are making in the club, using funds to enhance the playing experience at the courts and giving back to our members. Of note recently is – an additional picnic table, 2 more court side benches and new balls for team practice sessions. In addition, thank you to Jes who has been busy maintaining our equipment – ball machine, net straps, net fixings, cupboard and fencing.
5. I’m pleased to see that there is a drive to keep our courts busy over the coming cooler months. Wednesday clubnight has been fairly well attended (3 & 4 courts) over the summer and I know people are keen to see this continue.
6. A new Singles Match Play session has been introduced to our court schedule. This has had positive feedback so far and a volunteer to help run. We will keep up the momentum and hope this can become a successful addition to our member offerings.
As always, thank you everyone for your time and efforts. I do think we make a good team 😊
