Huntingdon & Peterborough Tennis League

Our club captain for the league concludes on a strong season for STC...

Stamford entered ten teams into the Huntingdon & Peterborough Tennis League this year: four mixed , three mens, three ladies and one team for the Don Brace Cup.  The latter played a usual format of a team of two mixed pairs, playing a mixed match each followed by a men’s or ladies match.

Some wonderful tennis was played throughout the course of the season.  There is one highlight in particular: after some closely fought and exciting matches towards the end of the season our Mens A team, captained by Martin Trawford, were winners of Division 1!  Huge congratulations go to the team and all those who played.

A further achievement was in the Don Brace Cup where we reached the Semi Finals. Again, congratulations to those who represented Stamford.

I would like to thank all the captains, Lottie, Susie. Maggie. Martin. Kevin, James, Felicity and Jenny for all their hard work in finding players, putting out the teams each week and dealing with last minute problems.  It has not been an easy season with weather causing last minute cancellations and latterly injuries causing rather reduced squads so WELL Done

Thank you also to the players and I hope you enjoyed your season of tennis. I know there were many exciting matches and sometimes the scores on the sheets at the end of the evening did not always reflect the mighty rallies on court.

Next year we will continue to have teams across the divisions and therefore I hope as many of you as possible will continue to play or join a team.
