Adult Leagues / Knockout - Match Format & Scoring

In General:  For all league events the winning team will be awarded 2 league points. There is also a bonus point for fielding a full team, so the winning team can get 3 points, 2 points each for a draw and the losing team can get 1 point.  If either team concedes a match beforehand or fields an incomplete team* they will forfeit this bonus point.

* with the exception of Div One matches at 2 court venues where an Away team of only 4 players will still get the bonus point.

All Matches:  Start Times: The default starting time unless otherwise agreed between captains will be 6pm arrival for a 6.15pm start on weekdays and 1pm arrival for a  1.15pm start at weekends. Any couple not able to start by 15 minutes after these start times (6.30, 1.30) will begin play as normal but will concede any remaining sets as soon as the other matches in round one have finished. For example, if they were leading 6-3, 4-1 when the other rubbers finished then the result would be 6-3, 4-6,  or where a 3rd set champs tb is normally played it would be 6-3, 4-6, 0-1. This ensures the match is not held up whilst still giving the late couple a chance to compete.

Winter League

*NOTE - the format of play is adjusted for 2 court venues, see appropriate score sheet.

Mens and Ladies Second and Third Division Leagues

Teams consist of 2 couples playing against their opposition over 2 rounds, 1v1, 2v2, 1v2, 2v1.

Scoring: Rubbers consist of 2 sets, if one set all then a 10pt match tie-break will be played.  Rubbers are scored 2-0 or 2-1

Mixed Leagues

Div One: Teams consist of 3 mixed couples

Scoring: An ABC draw is made. 3 rounds are played and each rubber is 2 sets. In the event of sets being shared, the rubber is considered a draw.

As this is our longest match format with a designated finishing time then Sudden Death Deuce (the no Ad rule), is played throughout whenever a deuce score is reached.  The server then serves one extra deciding point - man to man, or lady to lady.

Div Two: Teams consist of 2 mixed couples.

Scoring: Each rubber is two sets only.  Rubbers are scored 2-0 or 1-1

Sudden death deuce is optional in Div Two if for any reason it looks like the match might struggle to get finished on time.

Mixed Knock-out Cup

Teams of 3 ladies and 3 men – each lady plays two ladies doubles and one mixed doubles rubber and each man plays two mens doubles and one mixed doubles rubber. An ABC draw is made to determine the order of the mixed matches.

Scoring: Rubbers consist of 2 normal sets. In the event of sets being shared, the rubber is considered a draw. Each rubber is therefore scored 2-0 or 1-1.  Where 2 teams are level in rubbers at the conclusion of play, total games are counted to determine the winner. If still a draw then the Mixed 1st Couples play a 10pt match tie-break.

40+ League

Teams consist of 2 mixed couples (who are each 40 years or over by 31st December of the year the league is played.)

Scoring: Rubbers consist of 2 sets. In the event of sets being shared, a 10pt match tie-break will be played.  Rubbers are scored 2-0 or 2-1.
