FAQ

How do I know which aspect of ARTC is best suited to my experience and level of tennis?

  • We are a very friendly and welcoming club and know that getting a good fit for you is essential for you to make the most your membership. We aim to support and advise you as a new member by putting you in touch with members who may be playing at a similar level. By contacting membership@artc.org.uk you will be assured of a friendly welcome and a prompt response.

How can I play social tennis and meet other members?

  • Club Nights usually run from April to September. You can drop in for all or part of the session. Players mix and match in a doubles format and they are open to all abilities. They are friendly sessions and are ideal for new members to get involved on a social level.
  • Ladies’ Social Sessions run on Sunday afternoons throughout the year.
  • We also offer a Junior Club night on Fridays for primary school aged children.
  • Whatsapp groups are used to communicate interest in club sessions on a weekly basis. This is a very flexible way to get started. For more information contact info@artc.org.uk to be put in touch with Whatsapp groups.

Can I access any coaching?

  • Yes. Adult coaching is on Monday evenings from March- September. It caters for all abilities over 2 one hour sessions. The coach, Rob Jones, is an accredited Level 3 LTA coach and sessions are very popular. Contact adultcoaching@artc.org.uk for more information.
  • Junior coaching runs from March-September and is run by an LTA accredited Level 3 coach, Damian Galloway.  To find out more see the website or contact  juniorcoaching@artc.org.uk.

Can I join ARTC anytime during 2023-24?

Yes. Membership rates for Adults and Family are discounted if paid before 1.4.23 after which full price membership applies. If you join after 31.8.23 you will be entitled to have a pro rata membership rates from 1.9.23-31.3.24.

How can I get involved in competitive league tennis?

Last year, 2022 season, we entered 4 teams in the York Mixed League, 2 teams in York Mens’ Doubles League and 2 teams in the Fulford Ladies League, so there is always plenty of opportunity to get involved.

Our teams cover a wide range of abilities and enthusiasm is definitely a key aspect of being selected. Joining ARTC in April gives easy access to practise sessions before the season begins but you can join a team at any point during the season. Players pay a match sub of £6 per match on top of their membership fee.

Does ARTC hold its own tournaments?

Yes. We have several tournaments throughout the year and many are based on a harlequin format where players rotate their pairings each set so it’s an ideal way of playing with a variety of new partners. They are a great way to meet other members and play against different abilities in a sociable setting. See the website for more information about dates of tournaments.

How do I book a court in advance?

We use the ClubSpark online booking system if you want to guarantee a court booking but you can just turn up as well. If you are on an unbooked court and another member turns up who has booked the court then you would be expected to move to another court if possible.

How can I access the court and clubhouse?

You need 2 different keys which cost £5 each. You have to be over 18 to have a key to the Clubhouse. Contact membership@artc.org.uk for more information.

We hope this has answered some  questions you might have  and that you feel confident that you will be warmly welcomed at ARTC. If there’s anything else you would like to know about please don’t hesitate to contact us at info@artc.org.uk .

Thank you for your interest,
