Junior Welcome Letter

Welcome to Junior tennis at Appleton Roebuck Tennis Club

Hi!

And welcome to your local tennis club.

It’s a fantastic way to learn new tennis skills in a fun and exciting way.

Our coaches are really friendly and use games and team challenges to make sure you warm- up well and have lots of fun.

We have mini-tennis equipment so you can get started on a small scale and then you can move up to full size equipment as you progress.

So how can you get to play?

1. You can come to Junior coaching without being a member of the club. You only have to pay for the coaching sessions and the coach will arrange the payments.

You need to check the website page called Juniors to find out what the latest information is at www.artc.org.uk. Then, you need to follow the instructions about how to get more information.

Last year Junior Coaching was on Mondays and it ran from Easter to October half-term, so it’s great value for money. If you want more information email juniorcoaching@artc.org.uk .

2. You can also join the tennis club for £15 a year which means you can play any time there isn’t a league match on. So, you could play after school and if you’re over 13 years old you can buy a key to the courts for £5.

We have a Junior Club session on Fridays and you can come 3 times before deciding if you want to pay £15 for joining for the year. It’s a great chance to see if you like it.

If you join as a Junior member you can bring a parent/carer to play tennis with you and they have to pay……NOTHING! They can come and play for free. Now that really IS a bargain. They would be your ‘chaperone’, in other words your tennis buddy!

What should I wear?

Well, we know there’s some stylish tennis gear at Wimbledon but here at Appleton Roebuck we don’t mind what you wear, as long as you’ve got a pair of trainers and you can run around the court safely without tripping over anything. For us, comfort is the key to enjoying your tennis so we don’t recommend jeans as they can stop you running around as easily.

Do I need a tennis racquet or balls?

If you haven’t got a racquet there are a limited number spares in the clubhouse. You can get in touch with Chris Howat at juniorcoaching@artc.org.uk if you want to borrow one. She might even be able to give you a can of balls too!

How do I know if I’ll enjoy playing tennis?

Like a lot of sports, you need to put in the practise to get really good but it’s a great game to play with other people and is a lot of fun. We can offer you 3 free sessions before you decide whether to sign up to be a member of the club. So, you could come down and play with a parent or carer who would be your ‘chaperone’ to see if you like it.

How to have fun whilst staying safe

We’re BIG on safety at Appleton Roebuck and spend a lot of time making sure we do everything to make you feel good about where you are. We have A LOT of club policies to make sure:

  1. The courts and clubhouse are clean and tidy.
  2. The courts are in good condition.
  3. You can use the clubhouse toilets and get fresh water easily.
  4. The coaches really understand what you can and can’t do and suit their programme to you.
  5. That you know you can tell somebody if you feel awkward about something.
  6. That you know how to use the internet safely

Chris Howat is our Welfare Officer, which means she looks after everybody in the Club!

Now that really is a VERY BIG job! You can reach her at welfareofficer@artc.org.uk   if you want to know anything or need more information. You will need to ask a parent/carer to sign an Internet Access Agreement form and to give some contact details. You can find these on the website.

Chris is also the person who organises coaching, so she’s the best person to contact if you want to know more about what how junior coaching is going to be organised this year.. You can email her on juniorcoaching@artc.org.uk .

We hope you’ll join us at ARTC and look forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

ARTC Committee
