Safeguarding Survey Results:   Gordon, Colin and Dermot met Alan Hodges, the LTA auditor, to discuss the results of our safeguarding survey and self assessment.  Before arriving he had looked at our website and was complimentary about the amount of safeguarding information it contains and ease of access.  He was also very pleased to hear that we have appointed Karen Ferguson as Deputy Welfare Officer, providing diverse contact points for safeguarding issues within the club as well as cover when Colin Chamberlain is not available.

Alan reported that 40 people responded to the survey, a much higher percentage of club users than is usually achieved.  Thank you to all those who took part.  The key statistical results are shown below.  The overall picture was very positive with 100% of survey respondents saying they felt there was a safe environment at the club.  There is a high level of awareness of the need for good safeguarding practices and the policies and processes that underpin them.

The collated results of the survey showed that among respondents:

  • 74% were aware of Colin’s role as our Welfare officer
  • 90% knew about our Safeguarding policy
  • 32%-58% knew about our codes of conduct while 100% felt these were very important
  • 100% were confident that they would know how to report report any issues
  • 58% had seen our Welfare Officer poster with Colin’s picture and key contact numbers for organisations connected with safeguarding
  • 71% knew where to find Safeguarding information on our website
  • 100% believed there is a safe environment at the club
  • 95% felt we have appropriate Safeguarding processes in place

Based on the survey, our self assessment and our discussion with him, Alan has written his report for the LTA and the club.  It shows that we meet or exceed the minimum Safeguarding standards required for LTA affiliation with no red flag issues.  He has made some practical suggestions to help continue building visibility and awareness, especially around the specifics of codes of conduct, and these will be acted upon. A copy of the report will be made available in the clubhouse for anyone who wishes to read it.

If you want to know more or have any questions about safeguarding at the club please contact Colin or Karen using their contact details on our website.

Revenue for our club:  Our club's insurance brokers, Sutton Winson,  have come up with a scheme "Pitchin" which could earn the tennis club some much needed funds.

For each quotation for Home or Car Insurance they would pay £10, without any obligation to take out the insurance (so long as we had the necessary information to provide a guaranteed quote).  For each policy taken out they would pay a further £20.    As Sutton Winson have said  "The fact is people continue to purchase and renew their Home and Car insurance (during this difficult time)- why not give them the opportunity to help fund their club during this time. We’re not looking to charge more, where possible we would charge less than member are currently paying or match their renewal premium."

This is a no brainer for us as a club and we would really appreciate you giving this a go.  Here is the link that you need for quotations:  Sutton Winson Pitchin Scheme     Thank you
