League Match results - Weeks 7 & 8

2024 East of Scotland League Match Results -  Week 8

Ladies 1’s (Div 1), captain: Suzie Provan

The firsts enjoyed another win over Blackhall this week to pretty much guarantee the league title 😊 Our rivalry with Blackhall goes back many years, and although their team is not as strong as previously, they still put out a good team. We were pleased to win 9-4, although would have appreciated warmer and calmer weather conditions! Team consisted of Sarah and Mhairi at 1, Heather and Emily at 3, and Suzie and Alice at 3.

Ladies 2’s (Div 2), captain: Amy Allen

Braid 2s v Lomond Park 1s

Thoughts that it might be summer were again dashed today as we headed over to Lomond Park in gusty conditions.   It almost tried to rain as we started the warm up but thankfully decided not to continue past a quick shower!  Conditions were tricky but the tennis was good and the evening started off with 3 very tight matches against opposing pairs, each ending in a MTB.  Lisa and Juliet at 1 and Amy and Marianna at 2 came out victors, whilst Lorraine and Maki at 3 lost out 12-10 in the closest game of the evening!

We went into the second round 5-4 up, the next 3 matches were slightly less close thankfully as I’m not sure in the conditions any of us wanted another round like the first! We came away 9-6 winners keeping our spot at the top of division 2.

Well done and thank you to all who played this week.

Ladies 3’s (Div 3A), captain: Diana Dalton

Braid 3 Ladies were on cracking form on Thursday for the rematch against Musselburgh 1 at home. We had two new combos in the team of Lisa Kerr and Rachel Baker (and bake, she did, bringing some delicious brownies!) and Mhairi Reid and Diana Dalton. This was alongside the more regular pairing of Eileen Christie and Maeve Coney. All three duos comfortably won their matches and we came away with a 12-0 victory, leaving us just behind David Lloyd Newhaven in the rankings, who we play again this week, indoors, at theirs. We’ve a good team lined up so hoping to edge a victory this time.

Ladies 4’s (Div 5B), captain: Mhairi Reid

A convincing 10 – 3 away win over local rivals Mortonhall 3.  Viv and Hazel, at 1st couple, attempted to get a Guiness world record for most deuces in a single game.  Sue and Sugantha, at 2nd couple, are not regular partners but paired up admirably to win all their sets.  Amanda stepped up magnificently from the 5ths to partner Jacqui and they hung tough to win their first round match tie break.

Ladies 5’s (Div 9), captain: Kerry Cooper

Braid 5 played Queensferry 2, an away match and what a lovely site it was, with the Forth Rail Bridge towering over us. We went in to the second round 6-1…. the biggest battle having been on court 3. Well done Jules and Angie on that win, even if you did start playing a third set (😉) before having to start again with a tie-break! We enjoyed our games and the opposition fought hard, taking out our third pair but with lots of deuces along the way. Fiona, Kerry, Jane and Claire won their matches 4-0 and didnt give away many games. On top of the ladder this ensures our win in division 9, Jane of course, having done the calculations. We won 10-3.

2024 East of Scotland League Match Results -  Week 7

Ladies 1’s (Div 1), captain: Suzie Provan

Braid firsts continued their winning streak with a 10-2 win over Thistle. We were lucky to get it played given the horrendous weather of the week. Lisa joined us from the 2nds as Suzie and Eva were both unavailable, pairing up with Alice at third couple. Braid remain top of the table .

Ladies 2’s (Div 2), captain: Amy Allen

Not played due to bad weather. To be rescheduled.

Ladies 3’s (Div 3A), captain: Diana Dalton

Ladies 4’s (Div 5B), captain: Mhairi Reid

This week’s match was at home against Musselburgh 2.

Viv and Hazel played against the first couple and won after dropping the first set.  Sue and Mhairi, and Anne and Jacqui won against the second and third couples so we went into the second round in a strong position.

We managed a clean sweep of six sets in the second round giving Braid a 12-1 victory.

Many thanks to Caroline and David who came down to support.

Ladies 5’s (Div 9), captain: Kerry Cooper

Braid 5 played away and won 12-3 against Abercorn. They had a strong 1st and 2nd pair, and the result could easily have tipped the other way. Everyone played ultra top form to secure the win / it was definitely our most difficult match of the season. It was great to win all 3 tie breaks. Well done Fiona, Kerry, Jane, Sherry, Ev and Amanda

Reschedule from week 6:

Braid 5 played Murrayfield on Saturday in the heat of the afternoon, an away game. We started slow with two tie break losses with the first and second pair with Fiona, Kerry, Brenda and Amanda, and an outright win with Sherry and Jane as third couple: neck and neck 4:4. We all had tough matches. In the second round we triumphed with 2 straight wins from our first and second couple. Jane and Sherry battled it out to lose our third tie break of the afternoon with some great tennis played. We won 9-6. Well done team.
