COMPTONS TENNIS CLUB

Welcome to Comptons Tennis Club!

Our Vision is to create a tennis club for all members of the community that creates a healthier future for generations to come.

Tennis is said to be a sport for life, at Comptons we believe Tennis is a sport for a better life.

If you want to get fit and have fun doing so, please join us at this active and lively club situated at Lower Beeding some four miles south of Horsham.   We have the facilities to cater for all levels of tennis from beginners through to experienced match players and all for less than £5per week!

The club benefits from having:

  • Seven outdoor courts (All Floodlit) - including 4 artificial clay courts
  • Clubhouse, with bar and changing facilities
  • Off road parking
  • A comprehensive social tennis programme
  • Weekly coaching sessions to fit all levels - small fee applies
  • Tournaments and social events organised throughout the year

The Club house at Comptons provides a warm welcome and facilities to sit down and relax before or after a game or session. We have a fully working kitchen, bar area, table tennis table and comfortable lounge area, television and changing and shower facilities. The club keeps the kitchen stocked with tea and coffee (run via an honesty box) allowing all members the opportunity to come to the club, meet friends and socialise in a relaxed setting.

Tennis is a great sport suitable for adults, juniors and families; what-ever your level we have the coaching team and suitable sessions to get you onto court, being active and having fun!

Below are a few quotes from our members:

"I was a nervous beginner but Comptons made it easy!”

“From the moment I had a friendly hit with some of the Comptons ladies to find out more about the club I felt very included. The openness, humour, and genuine kindness from almost everyone I have encountered, makes the club extremely unique (and I’ve spent time at many, many clubs!). The fact that I am prepared to travel a little further than most to be part of Comptons speaks volumes.  If I were to sum up Comptons in a sentence it would be “inclusive, caring and a class outfit all the way”

“From day one I was made to feel welcome and have made some very special friends both on and off court.  Playing regularly plus coaching enabled my game to improve enough to play league tennis which I thoroughly enjoy, visiting other clubs and meeting new people.  Many times, having played away, returning to Comptons makes me realise just how lucky we are. Comptons gives back what you are prepared to put in.”

A huge thank you Horsham District Council and LoCASE for the support in helping us change the floodlights on our clay courts to LED lights.

FLOODLIGHT REPLACEMENT

Comptons Tennis Club has successfully worked with The Low Carbon Across the South and East (LoCASE) programme to replace all the metal halide floodlight light fittings with far more efficient and reliable LED floodlights.

Locase is supported by the European Regional Development Fund to provide a free business support programme in the South and East. The aim is to help your business to become more competitive and profitable while protecting the environment and encouraging low carbon solutions.

LoCASE grant’s programme was delivered from Spring 2016 until Spring 2023 across the South and East, and so Comptons was in the final wave of recipients.

The partnership consists of local authorities and universities across four Local Enterprise areas which are SELEP, Coast to Capital, Enterprise M3 and Solent.

The support from Locase has created multiple benefits for the club and the environment and buildings on the support already received from Horsham District Council

1. Financial.

Over the last few years the club has faced huge increases in energy costs for electricity and lighting is estimated as a large component of this cost.

The club is exploring various routes to try and contain the increases in these charges so that the facilities are affordable and available to a broad audience.

The lights allowed the club to maintain the low annual membership costs and to provide access to those playing after school and work during the winter on a low cost basis. This change has been essential to achieve the club’s objectives.

Furthermore, the LED bulbs have a consistent stable performance with a warrantied life of 10 years

2. Carbon consumption.

The LED bulbs will reduce the carbon consumption of the lighting from the club by a material %. Further benefits are the LED bulbs switch on and off immediately, whereas metal halide requires a “warm up” phase. This will also reduce electrical consumption and make the lighting arrangements more efficient.

3.Capacity

The electrical supply to the club is near maximum capacity preventing further expansion. Importantly, the additional capacity that the change will create, will offer the option to add electric car charging points in the car park.

The club is engaging with Lower Beeding Parish Council on this initiative.

4. Lower light pollution.

LED lighting is very targeted in the delivery of lighting and reduces the “spill” of light to surrounding areas over the use of traditional metal halide bulbs.
