Team Social

Sunday 9th September saw the first Team Social at the Centre, where all the team captains were invited to bring their team squad players and families for a fun social day of tennis and bbq. Around 30 people came along, and had 4 or 5 sets of tennis, and then enjoyed an ace bbq served up by Craig and Juliette! Most of the team captains were there, which gave Craig & Juliette the opportunity to thank them and everyone else who was there for their commitment this year, in what turned out to be a very successful season for the club. In the Northants Mens Division 1, the Corby Mens 1st team won the title for the 4th time in 5 years, with some outstanding results from Jack Haworth, Joe Tyler and Jordan Parker and captain  Craig  in particular. Our Mens 2nd Team won Division 2, so will be back in the top division next year, thanks to captain Iain Wetherell and strongly backed up by Neil Shorrock, Phil Watson and Paul White, while our 3rd team came second and gained promotion from Division 3 under captain Dave Johnson.

In the East Northants Leagues, our ladies A team retained the title they have won 3 years on the trot to send captain Karyn Slatter out in victorious style. She is standing down as captain next year, which sees Ruth Morecombe, our C team captain move up to captain the A. The C team came second in the division, and the B team came 4th. Our Mens 1st team finished 2nd , while the B and C teams both retained places in their current divisions, which was a really good effort with new captains Mark Toms and John Fowler respectively, along with completely new squads of players. This league is a great opportunity to give new members an opportunity to compete at a club level, before embarking on to the stronger Northants League. Our Mixed team also saw a new captain in Wendy Brown, and the team finished 2nd , which was a great start to her campaign, and knowing how competitive Wendy is, I know we will be pushing to win our title back again next year.

The Social Day was a great success, and was the idea of a number of club members who had requested it at the end of the season. A special thanks must go to Karyn and Roger for providing a large number of the drinks enjoyed by many of the players, and to everyone who attended, including a huge number of the Wetherell family.
