A tribute to Yash Agarwal

On Sunday 18 January we held a social tournament in memory of beloved Cotham Park Tennis Club member Yash Agarwal, who sadly passed away last year.

The tournament was organised and attended by some of Yash's good friends as well as his partner Nikita, and saw 16 players compete in timed doubles sessions where every game counts. Persistant rain did nothing to stop us from celebrating Yash with the kind of friendly and sociable spirit he brought to the club in abundance.

Nikita brought along a large framed photo of a smiling Yash which we put up in the clubhouse for the event. Through the tournament we raised money for the charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a "suicide prevention charity that provides life-saving services and practical mental health support to anyone who needs it". We managed to raise £165 for CALM, which could help fund around 13 potentially life-saving calls to their helpline. We hope to continue supporting the charity through future social tournaments.

Pictured are the tournament participants and attendees in our clubhouse after the tennis with Yash's picture and tennis cap front and centre. As tournament winner Dave said, the day was about more than tennis: to Yash, a treasured friend who brought people together and made everyone feel welcome 💚
