Club play
We have three 'club play' sessions each week, which are an opportunity to play social tennis with whoever turns up on the day. There's no need to book to turn up for social play - members are welcome to come and go at any point during the session, though you're less likely to get a hit nearer the end. Prospective members will typically be invited to come along to a club play session to get a feel for the club before joining.
How it works
When you turn up to club play, add your name to the list on the whiteboard. When a court becomes free, it's up to the person at the top of the list to pick four of the top eight players. When you're chosen, you'll make your way to the court and if any of your four have not yet played a set, have a three-minute warmup.
You'll then play a set of doubles. This will follow normal rules except:
- at deuce, the next point wins. The receiving team choose the side on which to receive serve
- at five all, you'll play a deciding game. The person who was due to serve that game will do so (it's not a tiebreak)
Towards the end of club play, the format might gradually get a little looser with singles and full deuce (if no one's waiting to play) coming into play.
