Norfolk SRA Leagues

Cromer joined the Norfolk SRA Leagues at the start of the 1980-81 season, playing in Division Nine and have played every season since. .We now have one team who have just been promoted to Division One but at the height of the sport’s popularity we were able to field three mens’ teams and two ladies teams. Over the years Cromer teams have enjoyed a reasonable amount of success with the first team, at various times, winning Division Six (twice), Five, Three (twice) and in 2021-22 Division Two. The second team were also successful winning divisions six, five and four.

There is also a less competitive summer league which Cromer entered for the first time in 1982 and since then we have won Divisions Seven, Six, Five and, in 2013, Division Two. The second team have also won Division Four. In 2019 we decided to have a break from summer league squash. In 2022 we finished in second place in Division One.

Racketball (Squash 57) is now becoming increasingly popular and in the spring of each year Norfolk SRA organize a Squash 57 league. We entered a team for the first time in 2017 and in 2019 we finished in second place in the top division. Norfolk SRA have not organized this since 2019

Internal Leagues

Within the club we have an ongoing series of both squash and squash 57 leagues which all members, regardless of ability, are encouraged to enter. There are usually six players in each division and members play each other over the course of a six week period. At the end of each six week period promotion and relegation applies. There are currently three divisions for both squash and squash 57 so there is plenty of scope for more members to take part.

In the squash leagues points won are accumulated over the course of the season and each September the person with the most points is awarded the prestigious “Squash Player of the Year” trophy which was first won by the late Neil Batchelor in 1986. This trophy was won by John Baker for five successive seasons but in 2021-22the winner was Sean Moore. Players of lesser have won it a number of times over the past thirty years.
