Great Ayton Tennis Club is one of the oldest tennis clubs in North Yorkshire, celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2019. We are delighted that we have provided competitive tennis for generations. Grandparents, parents, children; and grandchildren who are given a ball and racket to play with as soon as they are able.
Our iconic village location is both Nationally and Internationally known, as a result of being a gateway to the beautiful North Yorkshire Moors National Park and the home of Captain Cook's family whose Great Ayton house (moved stone by stone) can now be visited in a park in Melbourne, Australia.
Over the last 20 years, we averaged 200 senior and juniors members, resurfaced our 3 main match courts with “Poraflex” which meets the changing needs of our village community with the 3rd agers playing longer, the young seniors wanting to play at the highest level they can achieve and the nurturing of the next generation of juniors.
“Poraflex” is a porous surface, that is also cushioned and aligns well with the objects of the Club which is the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation, in particular the provision of facilities for the playing of tennis. The “Poraflex” surface aligns with the Trustees long term Development Plan and the Lawn Tennis Associations (LTA) compliant Safe and Inclusive Policies for our members.
