Sun Protection Policy
Our policy to make parents and members aware of the hazards of over exposure to sun. Even a few instances of sunburn may greatly increase the risk of melanoma in later life.
We encourage good practice in the use of protective clothing, the first line of defence, such as long-sleeved shirts, caps and wrap-around sunglasses.
Sunscreen FSF30+ with UVA and UVB protection is recommended when appropriate.
For more detailed guidance parents and members are referred to the Outdoor Kids Sun Safety Code, easily found on the internet. The detailed guidance in the OK Guidelines can be emailed to members and parents on request.
Parents should be aware that our coaches or event organisers cannot provide suitable clothing or apply sunscreen (except in the case of their own children or those for whom they caring.) Coaches and organisers will encourage children to wear suitable protective clothing but this and the application of sunscreen has to remain the responsibility of parents and carers.
At events and coaching sessions coaches and organisers can look after sunscreen which children may bring with them and encourage them to apply it if they are old enough to do so without difficulty. Coaches and organisers are not responsible for supervising the application of sunscreen. Sunscreen cannot be left with coaches or oganisers at the end of such events.
Parents and carers should be aware of the limited amount of shade at our Club, which makes protective clothing and sunscreen even more important.
Members and children are encouraged to take drinks with them to club events and when playing on the courts. At Club organised events there is access to drinking water in the Social Club bar, when open, and in the changing rooms when the bar is closed.
