Important News!

Membership renewal payments are due by 1st April 2024. Some fee categories have been slightly increased to cover inflation costs and there will be some very small charges for Saturday junior coaching sessions to help towards the club's coaching costs.  Please check the Membership tab for information.

There are a few changes to the Club Committee membership this year. Lesley Hill has been elected as Chair as Barry Rodgers steps down, Kamran Khan has been elected as Vice Chair, Kim Cuthell takes over from Beccy Scuse as Safeguarding Officer.   Karen Harley, Debbie Wilson, Bev Urbans, Will Davies, Caroline Floccia and Alan Mayes will all be staying in as committee members.  Mike Smith has rejoined the committee. If any members would like to assist with Committee work, even on an ad-hoc basis, please email us at hilllanetennis@gmail.com.

On 2nd May 7am to 10pm the Lockington Clubhouse has been hired out as a Polling Station. There will be no access to the clubhouse but courts can be booked as usual. Don't forget to bring your own tennis balls on that day!

Introduction

Hello and welcome to Hill Lane Tennis Club!

We are a friendly community based club in Plymouth, that operates across two sites within 200 meters of each other.  Our Hill Lane site is dedicated to our juniors and then Lockington Avenue courts for the adults.

We welcome all ages and abilities, from beginners to competitive players.  There are regular group coaching sessions for children and adults at a very minimal charge.  But you don't have to be a budding Rafa or Serena, you may just want to have fun playing tennis in the fresh air with a friendly bunch of people. Let's face it, compared with some gym membership charges, our club gives you all year round access to courts and you can keep fit for less than the cost of a cup of cappuccino per week.  Membership fees are great value and we even offer a discount for some membership categories..

The club has various Club Sessions per week (see the Events and News header tab), where you just turn up and play with others, it's a great way to meet people. Once registered with our club you can have court access any time and we have an easy online booking system to book your court. Don't forget all court time is free once you have joined us!

The club has floodlights which can be used up to 10pm. Both sites have a clubhouse with kitchen, toilet and changing facilities and there is easy street parking available.

Several times during the year we have social events, usually mixed in with a bit of social tennis. These include quizzes, barbecues and other themed food events. So far this year we've had well attended Spanish, BBQ and Curry events, and Alan's famous egg and bacon rolls after weekend team practice are legendary!

So why not give us a try? You can even come and have a couple of free sessions to see if you like us first before committing. Just contact the Membership Secretary, details on the 'Membership' tab.

The club is run by a committee of volunteers with the help of club members and parents. If you would like to be involved with the organisation of the club please email the Hill Lane email address on the next tab.

The club is stacked in history, the 1931 first round Davis Cup match, the only one ever played in Plymouth, between GB and Monaco and played at our Lockington site (then Carhullen).  GB winning 5v0 with Fred Perry making his GB debut.
